Psycho-educational program:
Most of the children and youth identified as Human Supporter Association's target group are psychologically affected by the occupation resulting in low-learning achievement, scarce ability to concentrate, anxiety, nightmares, low self-esteem, aggressive behaviour, and phobias. Consequently, in order to meet psychosocial needs of the target group as well as providing them with adequate learning methods and education, different psychosocial-supporting, educational programs are implemented by Human Supporters Association.
Educational program:
The educational domain is facing unprecedented difficulties, especially after the Al Aqsa Intifada, leading to an increase in school dropouts and illiteracy. From the start of the second intifada net enrolment rates in basic education dropped from a peak of 92 percent on 1999/2000 to 88.4 percent during the 2003/2004 school year. Among boys in grades 7 to 9 drop-outs have almost tripled, possibly as this group has taken on more responsibility towards family income. The average class size in 2009 was measured to be 35 students. These large class sizes, in combination with many children that need extra attention, make it impossible for the teachers to give the students the required attention. Therefore, the Human Supporters Association believes it is highly necessary to supply extra school support and classes, and informing the children on the importance of receiving their diploma. Furthermore, Human Supporters Association believes that education goes beyond school books and class rooms. We believe there is a different type of education, which might develop and teach the student more, than any text book would be able to. Therefore, Human Supporters Association provides workshops on global issues to open the eyes of the youth to the outside world, providing them with information they might not attain in their respective schools.
Sportive and cultural program:
As 90% of the parents of the youth of Nablus think there is no safe and suitable playground for their children, Human Supporters Association thinks it is vital to provide a safe place for the youth to express themselves freely through sports, visual art, music, and dance. Human Supporters Association aims to encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.
Self-sustainability program:
Although Human Supporters Association has grown tremendously in the past years, it remains our main problem to be able to fund our new programs and ideas. Therefore, we aim to implement a range of new programs such as fundraise events, focusing on the sustainability of the organization, to be able to continue to contribute to the development of the youth of Nablus.
